Maison Berton: preserving Aosta Valley traditions and culture in the heart of La Thuile
During your stay in La Thuile, if you wish to immerse yourself in local traditions, culture, and craftsmanship, a visit to Maison Berton is a must.
Of Tchuilien origin, the Berton family chose La Thuile as their preferred holiday destination as early as the beginning of the 20th century. They purchased a splendid villa and, over the years, transformed it into a kind of living testament to Valdostan traditions and craftsmanship, for which they had a deep passion.
In particular, one of the two Berton brothers, a historian by profession, began collecting books, ceramics, sculptures, prints, and inlaid furniture, preserving them within the walls of the family home, yet with a profound desire to share them and to see them become “common goods” for all those who, whether for a week or a lifetime, chose to live in La Thuile.
In the spirit of an ancestral bond with the territory, the two brothers donated Maison Berton to the Municipality of La Thuile, with the request that it be transformed into a museum in every respect.
