The charm, nature, sport, wines and cuisine of La Thuile all have their origins way back in history. Situated in Valdigne, in the heart of the Alps, La Thuile is a small mountain town with 793 year-round residents called Tchuilliens. This proud town is the most westerly municipality in the Aosta Valley region—the last bastion of Italy before the border with France and the Tarentaise. At an altitude of 1,441 m, the La Thuile burg (which covers 126.13 km2) has crystal-clear air and timber- and stone-built houses with local slate roofs. It sits in a wide green valley between the foothills of Rutor, Grand Assaly and the Mont Blanc range. Nature’s bounty provides a wild, picturesque habitat for the small but welcoming town of La Thuile—an eclectic place where you can experience the real essence of mountain living. Faithful to its traditions, La Thuile is a tourist destination with an international feel, melding its own age-old way of living with a wide variety of holiday solutions with an emphasis on sport, relaxation, fun, culture and good dining. The queen of winter sports, La Thuile is also a paradise for hiking and mountaineering in the summer, and is nowadays the place to be for mountain- bikers.
La Thuile’s annual festival, dedicated to Saint Nicholas, is held on the 9th of May.
La Thuile's Mayor is Mathieu Martinet Ferraris.
