La Thuile Fis telemark world cup: Amelie Reymond and Trym Nygaard get the podium of the second day of races
Today, with the race of the ‘Classic’ discipline, the two days dedicated to the Tekemark World Cup of La Thuile came to an end. Athletes, organisers and technicians are highly satisfied.
‘The slope is definitely technical, hard and spectacular. The fact of hosting for the second time the Telemark World Cup makes us proud. I want to say a huge thank you to the organizing committee, to the Funivie Piccolo San Bernardo society, to the Federazione Italiana Sport Invernali (FISI), to the whole valdôtain community, as well as to the Esercito Italiano for having supported this event’.
These are the comments by Dante Berthod, federal counsellor of the FISI, who continues: ‘We hope of having the chance of hosting other international events related to the Alpine Ski World Cup. We have worked a lot to reach this aim together with the FISI and Flavio Roda, our president, who strongly support us’.
Marco Mosso, president of Asiva (Associazione Sport Invernali Valle d’Aosta) adds: ‘Two days of wonderful and stunning races for the Telemark world. Two highly technical races on a slope which is indeed highly selective, hard and tough, which was perfectly prepared by the Funivie Piccolo San Bernardo society. These races highlighted the complete preparation of the athletes in a discipline which is a bit a ‘niche’ sport but also rather famous, through which we can truly understand both the passion and the devotion of these athletes’.
The ‘Classic’ discipline started this morning at 10.30am along the n. 3 – Franco Berthod ski slope. A little more than two minutes of race along a track which was definitely longer than the ‘Sprint’ one, with 45 gates, one stunning jump, one parabolic curve and a cross-country skiing ring, which obliged the 46 athletes (14 women and 32 men) to a really hard performance, right before the winning post.
Amelie Reymond triumphed among the women, with a time of 2’06.14 and a perfect race. Jasmin Taylor got the second place in 2’09.11 and Argeline Tan Bouquet got the third place in 2’12.33 after the stunning performance in yesterday’s Sprint race.
Amelie Reymond, who comes back to the Telemark world after her pregnancy and who got the second place yesterday, says about her victory: ‘I am so so happy. The Classic race is really tough, and it is even tougher here in La Thuile, if we consider the slope. The n. 3 – Franco Berthod ski slope is a perfect testing bench, a track which is highly technical, with a gradient and jump which make it breath-taking!’
The men race finished with the victory of the Norwegian athlete Trym Nygaard Loeken, who got the first place right before the Swiss Stefan Matter, who stopped the chronometer at 2’03.73, a little while before his compatriot Nicolas Michel, who got a time of 2’04.47.
Trym Nygaard Loeken, who obtained two magnificent consecutive victories, expresses all his enthusiasm: ‘What I feel now is incredible! It is a dream! I couldn’t wish a better result here in La Thuile, where the slope is so difficult. The Classic is a really tough discipline which really tests all the athletes!’
The Italian athlete Davide Dallago, who fell yesterday during the Sprint race and who got his shoulder injured, couldn’t take part to the race. His fellow countryman Raphael Mahlknecht finished the race and got the 19th place, with a time of 2’18.80.
La Thuile triumphed again and obtained the praise of both technicians and athletes
