La THUILE INFINITY TREKKING

Trekking in ancient history

Where nature meets culture

Trekking in La Thuile in ancient history

When nature and culture converge

Alongside its natural beauty, La Thuile offers a rich cultural heritage. The traces left by the various populations who have inhabited this borderland over the centuries create an open-air museum of sorts. This trek through ancient history leads you to the Little St. Bernard Pass, a 2-kilometre loop featuring small villages, ancient astronomical calendars, remnants of Celtic cults, old Roman mansiones, sacred columns, mediaeval hospices and traces of wars and historic conflicts. Beyond these landmarks, La Thuile itself serves as an open-air museum, encompassing ancient archaeological sites, historic mines and gardens.

On the Trail of Time

Walking in La Thuile means stepping into a story over 5,000 years old.
An Open-Air Museum, with no walls or display cases, where history blends with the wild landscape on the most untouched side of Mont Blanc.

Among ancient trade routes, Roman ruins, old mines, an authentic Celtic cromlech, and traces of Alpine culture, every trail becomes a page in a millennia-old book — written in stone and forest.

A journey through history, immersed in nature:
the La Thuile – Open-Air Museum project is much more than a network of trails — it’s a new way of exploring the mountains, walking between memory and untamed nature.

Eight historical eras — from pre-Celtic civilizations to the contemporary age — intertwine along scenic, accessible paths designed for those who wish to slow down and listen.
Each step is an invitation to rediscover the deep connection between humans and the environment.

Borderlands are often steeped in history, traditions, and ancient stories.
In La Thuile, one of the most important Alpine crossings, the past becomes even more captivating: 5,000 years of civilization, 8 historical periods, ancient mines, rural chapels, Roman remains, and one of the oldest Celtic cromlechs in Italy.

An Open-Air Museum guarded by forests, sheltered by mountains, and energized by rivers, waterfalls, and glacial lakes.
Here, legends, architecture, and trails come together to tell the story of centuries of exchange, conflict, and spirituality.
