Ladies Ski World Cup
Story
With a slope like the 3-Franco Berthod as part of the resort’s extensive offering, hosting the Alpine Ski World Cup has always been the most ambitious goal for the entire La Thuile community.
For years, work was done to prepare a dossier to present to FISI, which in turn submitted it to FIS. The wait was long, and the path complex given the many locations involved, until the dream came true with the event being awarded for the 2015/2016 season. It was a debut with the queens of speed that was immediately doubled, as La Thuile was also chosen to host a rescheduled downhill race that had been cancelled just days earlier in nearby Crans Montana.
After three spectacular races that thrilled athletes from around the world, La Thuile went back to work while awaiting a new opportunity, which came four years later.
The February 2020 edition is one that won’t be easily forgotten, as the then-unknown Covid-19 pandemic was already knocking at the door, and soon after, it would bring the world to a halt. On that occasion, only the Super-G was held; the overnight snowfall forced the cancellation of the Alpine Combined, awarding the discipline globe to the local hero, Aosta Valley’s own Federica Brignone.
La Thuile’s third time hosting the World Cup came five years later: in March 2025, the queens of speed returned to the 3-Franco Berthod for two Super-G races (a third event, the Downhill, was cancelled due to bad weather).
