La Thuile Open-Air Museum

On the Trail of Time

Walking in La Thuile means immersing yourself in a story that spans over 5,000 years.
An Open-Air Museum, without walls or display cases, where history merges with the wild landscape of the most unspoiled side of Mont Blanc.

Among ancient routes, Roman remains, mines, an authentic Celtic cromlech, and traces of Alpine culture, every trail becomes a page in a millennia-old book, written in stone and forest.

A Journey Through History, Immersed in Nature

The La Thuile – Open-Air Museum project is much more than a network of trails: it’s a new way of exploring the mountains, walking between memory and primeval nature.

Eight historical eras – from pre-Celtic civilizations to the contemporary age – intertwine along panoramic, accessible paths, designed for those who want to slow down and listen.
Each step is an invitation to rediscover the deep connection between humans and the environment.

Borderlands are often steeped in history, traditions, and ancient testimonies.
In La Thuile, one of the most important Alpine passes, history becomes even more fascinating: 5,000 years of civilization, 8 historical periods, ancient mines, rural chapels, Roman remains, and one of the oldest Celtic cromlechs in Italy.

An Open-Air Museum guarded by forests, protected by mountains, and crossed by the energy of rivers, waterfalls, and glacial lakes.
Here, legends, architecture, and trails come together to tell stories of centuries of exchange, battles, and spirituality.

It boasts an historical, archaeological, natural and mining heritage unmatched elsewhere in our country.
