Christmas tree lighting in La Thuile
In La Thuile, the colourful lights of the Christmas tree are lit — a tree with a balsamic scent, dense, deep green needles that, to the touch, transport your mind to the revitalising and energy-filled forests on the wild side of Mont Blanc, where nature reigns supreme.
There are several theories about the origins of the Christmas tree. It is said that the first decorated fir appeared in Tallinn, Estonia, in 1441. But the city of Riga, in Latvia, also claims to be the birthplace of the tradition. And that’s not all: according to legend, the very first Christmas tree was set up in 1611 in Germany, when the Duchess of Brieg, noticing an empty corner in her castle, decided to fill the space with a tree from the garden.
The tree, dripping with twinkling lights, stirs powerful emotions tied to childhood and the scents of spices, spreading the magical atmosphere that makes Christmas so special.
For the occasion, the Chatel Argent Choir – a mixed choir from Villeneuve (AO), affiliated with the Regional Choir Association of Valle d’Aosta – will perform.
